The Handle

The industrial tiller-style handle provides for easy control of the tow cart. It can be used by left or right handed users. Forward/reverse and speed are controlled by a toggle for comfortable single-finger or thumb operation. A push-button master switch is mounted on the top of the handle. Twist on and push off. This complies with industry-standard practice to provide for emergency shutdown in the event of inadvertent operation.

Unique to this tow cart is multi-positional handle stowage. The handle can be easily moved from its operation position to a vertical stowed position. This lifts the handle out of the way so it is not a trip hazard when the helicopter is in the hanger. The handle can also be folded over the top of the tow cart for compact storage. Stowing the handle vertically allows the cart to be left connected to the helicopter.

What Makes It Move?

The Robbie Tug tow cart uses two Group 24 12V batteries wired in series to provide 24VDC to the system. These are connected to an industrial-grade computerized controller. The controller powers two 330 watt permanent magnet motors. The tires are 13x5 inch knobby pneumatic tires which provide assured grip on any surface.

The industrial controller is tuned to provide smooth acceleration and deceleration to prevent shock loads to the helicopter. The controller programmable parameters are optimized for safe, secure towing of any Robinson helicopter.

A smart 24VDC 5A charger is provided with each system for quick charging as well as floating a fully charged battery. The charger connection is at the front of the battery box allowing the cart to be plugged in even if still connected to the helicopter.

Please note the Robbie Tug tow cart is not shipped with batteries. Deep cycle batteries can be easily sourced locally for less than $100 each. Shipping without batteries reduces shipping weight, your cost and shipping complexity.

Lift System

What sets Robbie Tug tow carts apart is the included electric lift system. Simple toggle switch actuation lifts or lowers the jack to engage the attachment block with the hard point ball provided at the front of all later model Robinson helicopters. The jack easily lifts any Robinson helicopter regardless of loading or fuel load. The hard point block easily engages with the tow ball and a slide latch assures the tow ball does not bounce out when operated over rough terrain. The lift system is equipped with lower and upper travel limit switches.

The electric lift is not only easier to use than a hydraulic jack but is much cleaner. Most low-cost tow carts use cheap Chinese-made car floor jacks adapted for use on these carts. These tend to leak oil over time and are difficult to use.
